Shamian Island

Shamian Island

Guangzhou is a magical place, for there you may also appreciate some European foreign beauty. It is located at the gorgeous Tan Bei Shore of White Swan Zhujiang. Ever since the territory became a concession in 1859,   countries like Britain, France, America, Germany, Japan, Italy, Holland and Portugal had arrived Shamian continuously to build their embassies, banks and malls, which later also brought about European style churches and residential area in the island. There are, therefore, altogether more than hundreds of architectures that went for the European look. And there are 42 buildings, which are in neo-Barrack, Gothic, neo-classic and East-West fusion style, that are particularly outstanding; making this region an architectural cluster of exotic charm, with the Red House, Our Lady Lourdes Church, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Banking, and the British Anglion Church as the most representative among all. Shamian Island is a peaceful and tranquil place with blocks and blocks of western classic buildings sprouting in the midst of the green. The mansions are old. Yet they have never lost their elegance and grace.
